Gallery Tokonoma is a unique establishment just outside the historic village of Mudgeeraba, on the way to Springbrook and the beautiful Purlingbrook Falls.

We say it is unique because we know of no other private art gallery in Queensland situated in such a serene natural setting - a setting so perfectly suited to the highly unusual art we show.

Our signature range of "Art You Love To Live With,"  is a collection of minimalist ink art by cutting-edge Japanese artists working in surprisingly diverse styles. Some of this work is dramatic and some is quiet, but never is it bland. It is a kind of art that is totally at ease in the open, airy contemporary Australian home and looks exquisite in the unique Australian light. In addition to ink art we regularly hold exhibitions by Australian and other overseas artists.

Gallery Tokonoma was established in 2006 by Margaret Price in partnership with Toshiko Fukuda. Margaret and Toshiko's association began in 1997 when they established a school of tea ceremony aficionadoes in Tokyo called the Little Tea Society. It was through their work with the Little Tea Society that they came in contact with the most sublime art and craft of Japan and were able to associate with leading Japanese artists and artisans.

Simultaneously Margaret began calling on Australian arists and craftspeople to make objects for tea ceremony. Two very successful exhibitions of this work were subsequently held at the Australian Embassy in Tokyo. Margaret's work to develop "Australian Crafts for Tea" continues and visitors to Gallery Tokonoma can, from time to time, see tea bowls and other tea utensils by Australian artisans.

Margaret (in Mudgeeraba) and Toshiko ( in Tokyo) have also used their knowledge of tea to develop some spectacular green tea drinks and unusual desserts marrying Australian and Japanese flavours. These can be tried at the Green Tea Cafe at Gallery Tokonoma. We hope you will come and try an Iced Matcha Latte some time soon. For more on the green tea cafe please go to www.tokonoma.com.au.

Gallery Tokonoma's exhibitions are curated by Margaret Price in partnership with Toshiko Fukuda and Hidenori Yoshida in Japan. Meet the faces behind the gallery...
